About:

Noam Segal is the LG Electronics Associate Curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, NYC. She holds a Ph.D. in hermeneutics and culture studies and a BA in Philosophy and Political Science. Segal’s work deals with the intersection of the digital, political and social in contemporary art. She is the jury chairman for the prestigious LG Guggenheim Art and Technology award and is overseeing technology-based art at the Guggenheim New York.  

Segal has collaborated with international art institutions such as the American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center (Washington, D.C.); Palais de Tokyo (Paris); Performa (NYC); the Brooklyn Academy of Music; the Museum of Contemporary Photography (Chicago); MoCo Contemporain (Montpellier, France); Castello di Rivoli (Turin); Kunstverein Nürnberg; Kunst-Werke Institute for Contemporary Art (Berlin); and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. She was the curator of the 2020 Aurora Biennial (Dallas, TX), and was part of the curatorial team for the 12th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art (June 11 - September 18, 2022). Segal also curated a project for FRONT International 2022, Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art, and recently curated the 15 Gwangju Biennale symposium titled Echoes of Tomorrow: Soundscapes in the Age of Advanced Computing.

Prior to joining the Guggenheim, Segal was the director of curatorial research in the MA program for curatorial practice at the School of Visual Arts, New York. In that role, she founded and organized the Algorithmic State, an online series of critical discussions that considers the evolution and implications of digital art and emergent technologies in current sociocultural, political, and ecological settings. She is a faculty member in the Curatorial Practice department at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. In 2020, Segal was a Visiting Scholar at the Tisch School of the Arts in the department of Performance Studies, and a Visiting Faculty member at Virginia Commonwealth University in the Department of Painting and Printmaking. She has held positions in curatorial studies, painting, photography, and art education at Bezalel Academy, Hamidrasha School of Art, and Minshar School of Art.

Segal also held positions as a visiting lecturer, critic, and external reviewer at various venues including Jeu de Paume, Paris; Abu Dhabi Cultural Summit; Christie's Art+Tech Summit, Cornell Tech; Columbia University GSAPP; The New School, the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts; Pioneer Works; Residency Unlimited; Pinchuk Art Centre Future Generation Art Prize; Columbia University; Hunter College; Bat Sheva Dance Company; Sotheby’s; Zochrot; Triangle Arts Association; Amant Foundation; and leading art fairs such as Art Basel conversations and Frieze Talks.
